Meet our user: Carmen, creative hobbyist based in Switzerland

Updated: Feb 7, 2021

Passionate about all kinds of crafts, Carmen has always been willing to try new activities that allow her to use her hands and get creative. She was one of the early users of Ateliers Céline's first release. Read on to discover her experience with Ateliers Céline.

What was your first impression when you received the Ateliers Celine box?

“Chic” was the first thing that came to mind!

The box design is absolutely wonderful. I loved the printing on the box itself. The colors were a perfect balance for my aesthetic: Understated, earthy but stylish, and with pops of color.

It’s high quality with an "organic" and handmade feel to the packaging. Inside, it was very well organized as the components came individually wrapped.

Again, I loved the layout and the choice of colors. Also, the little handprinted tags are so cool. They created everything to support the crafter and make sure she can start right away in full confidence!

I was not expecting a gift but they included a beautiful Cyanotype handmade bookmark.

As a person who generally crafts in physical workshops, how did you enjoy the digital atelier format?

First, I have to say that I felt as if I was with the artists. It is a full workshop experience with step-by-step video instructions and generous supplies.

You have everything you need to create a piece from start to finish. I was also reassured that I did not have to go to a physical location and could do it from home, especially because of the sanitary restrictions.

The digital instructions are very clear. It starts with the origins of the techniques, and additional background about the artists. Then we dive right into the craft experience. I logged in with my laptop on the platform to view the online video… et VOILA! The project involved a poem that connected to the artwork - which made it even more interesting!

What I especially liked is the fact that the box includes extra materials to try and test new things beyond the atelier. And I have to say that the artists Dimi and Yuko were both really inspiring!

Were you satisfied with the result? Can you show us what you created?

YES and YES! Very happy and proud :) For my first-time trying cyanotype, I was extremely happy with my results. It looks beautiful and was easy enough. Super interesting technique, we also had some fun trying new things!

What did you like the most about the Atelier Celine experience?

Mix of Digital and Physical Experience at its Best:

o The great thing is that I didn’t have to navigate the creation alone. My kit came with access to a video workshop led by the artists Dimi and Yuko, who teach in a way that makes it easy for us to get everything right. They demonstrated each step and explained what to do. They also anticipated my questions —such as how do I need to rinse the prints? or should I worry about the greyish color?—before I had a chance to think of them.

Eco Friendly:

o I re-use everything anyway - but I am happy when I know what everything is made of and where it comes from. Many of the supplies are reusable and there are instructions on how to reuse them.

Great Group Activity:

o After my first try, I had some supplies left over, so I invited a friend to join me - he really enjoyed it too! He said it was the most fun he had in months. In general, I think that the workshops are super cool to do alone but especially fun as a group/partner activity.

Frees Your Creative Spirit:

o I think the part that I enjoyed the most was being creative myself and with my friend. It felt great to create something new that was not in line with the tutorial! Having extra material was really a good idea and allowed me to add my own creative twists.

Ideal Project Format:

o The entire workshop was about 35 minutes long, but the project took me 2-3 hours to complete. I felt that was just right for me not to move on to something else.
